| Description | Journal: Measurement Science and Technology Triangle-area representation (TAR) is a multiscale method for shape depiction. In this paper, we proposed an ameliorative TAR method for high shape discrimination power, and implemented it for convexity and concavity detection and characterization for cross-section shape analysis of profiled fibers. Positive and negative TAR outputs were processed by an average filter and then accumulated to obtain two separate histograms. From the histograms, the number and positions of the convex or concave corners on a fiber contour can be determined, and the range and extent of each convexity or concavity can be calculated for more quantitative shape analysis. These parameters provide basic shape information for fiber classification and inspection, and are also helpful for detecting and separating adherent boundaries in the image. |
