| Description | Journal: Physics World Physicists and astronomers in the US are furious at NASA's decision to cancel all future visits by the space shuttle to the Hubble Space Telescope. The decision, which was announced by NASA Administrator Sean O'Keefe last month, means that the telescope will probably last for no more than four years before its gyroscopes and batteries fail. The loss of Hubble will also prevent astronomers from comparing its visible-light images with those from the infrared James Webb Space Telescope, which is scheduled for launch in 2011. A campaign has now begun to persuade NASA to overturn the decision. |
