| Description | Journal: Pure and Applied Optics: Journal of the European Optical Society Part A A high-speed discrete retardation modulation polarimeter, which measures the time-resolved Stokes parameters of light transmitted by an optical fibre ammeter, is described. The sensing coil of the ammeter consists of 300 m of a spun elliptically birefringent optical fibre. The Stokes parameters are obtained with a time resolution of . A response of 0.0032 rad is measured for an AC current of amplitude 6.25 A. An ammonium diphosphate (ADP) electro-optic modulator is used as a variable retarder in the ellipsometer. The azimuth of polarization changes with temperature at for the ammeter, or the change per unit length is . The influence of fibre temperature on the ammeter sensitivity is also measured. |
