Description	Journal: Physics Bulletin With reference to Professor Lenihan's article (Physics Bulletin September 1979 p391), I believe that the apparent unwillingness among members to permit any substantial increase in annual fees, despite the fact that they are tax-deductible, stems from a feeling that The Institute's financial affairs require a fresh look. Is it the function of the Institute to amass wealth in the form of assets which make no significant contribution to the day to day running of the Institute's affairs, or is it primarily to advance the quality and quantity of relevant physics practised throughout the world ?
