| Description | Journal: Journal of Physics B: Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics Measurements of the asymmetry in the scattering of unpolarised electrons from optically pumped spin-polarised sodium atoms have been carried out at incident electron energies of 20, 54.4 and 70 eV and for a range of scattering angles between 20' and 140'. This asymmetry, which was first proposed by Farago (1974) as a means of measuring spin-orbit effects in the presence of a dominant spin-exchange interaction, is less than 1% at all energies and scattering angles studied. |
