Description	Journal: Physics World Quantum mechanics is a great deal more than a theory; it is a whole new way of looking at the world. When it was developed in the l920s, quantum mechanics was viewed primarily as a way of making sense of the host of observations at the level of single electrons, atoms or molecules that could not be explained in terms of Newtonian mechanics and Maxwell an electrodynamics. Needless to say, it has been spectacularly successful in this task.
