Electron density sensitive emission line ratios for Si XIII in laser produced plasmas

| Description | Journal: Journal of Physics B: Atomic and Molecular Physics Recent calculations of electron impact excitation rates for transitions in Si XIII are used to determine theoretical intensity ratios alpha $=I(1s^{2} ^{1}$S-1s2p$ ^{1}P)/I(1s^{2} ^{1}$S-1s2P$ $^{3}$P_{1}$), which are suitable as electron density diagnostics for values of $N_{e}$ ( $approximately=10^{18}-10^{24}$ $cm^{-3}$) typical of laser produced plasmas. The results are significantly different from those of previous authors, and are in excellent agreement with the observed value of alpha for a plasma where the electron density has been independently estimated from the Stark broadening of spectral lines. |
