| Description | Journal: Physics World The Italian national research council (CNR) is in turmoil. It will spend just L120bn (about £41 m) of its L1000bn budget on research grants this year. The CNR institute for quantum electronics in Milan, for example, has had its funding cut by 40%. The council will also stop funding university groups and instead concentrate on supporting its own researchers, under plans unveiled recently The CNR currently supports about 2500 scientists in 350 institutes, centres and research groups. |
