| Description | Journal: Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics It is shown to be possible to predict the optical properties of evaporated films of antimony in the infrared as a function of their thickness and changes in free-carrier concentration. This is achieved by the interpretation of previous data on the optical properties of thin films of antimony, with the use of detailed measurements of optical constants, in the near-infrared, of polycrystalline material. The optical constants due to free-carrier effects have been separated from those due to bound electrons and used in a computer program for thin-film behaviour. A one-carrier model was found adequate to account for free-carrier dispersion, with a relaxation time of 31 × $10^{−14}$ s found for a carrier density of 31 × $10^{26}$ $m^{−3}$. |
