| Description | Journal: Pure and Applied Optics: Journal of the European Optical Society Part A The design of volume phase gratings for operation in the near-infrared domain is discussed. A second-order coupled-wave diffraction model of a non-uniform grating buried between multilayer coatings is explained. Two methods for obtaining transmission gratings without reflection losses are studied: one is based on an additional anti-reflection treatment, the other one makes use of E-mode polarization at Brewster incidence. In the latter case, two relations are derived which characterize a reflection-free grating for operation with E-mode polarized light. Both methods are tested on dichromated gelatin. The angular responses of the resulting gratings are measured and analysed, and their physical characteristics are obtained by numerical fitting. The effects of both techniques are compared. |
