| Description | Journal: Materials Research Express In this paper, a technique of consumable friction plug welding (CFPW) was introduced in the TC4 titanium alloy welding for repairing the keyhole and defect. A semi-consumable plug welding head composed of a nickel base superalloy shoulder and a titanium alloy plug was designed. Several defect-free welding samples have been achieved and the process window of CFPW for TC4 alloy has been explored. The drilling hole was repaired successfully by plastic deformation and flow of the titanium alloy plug during CFPW. The cross sections of CFPW specimen were classified into five zones with different microstructures. The final structure and grain size in the thermal deformation (TD) zone have been refined. The mechanical property test results showed that the ultimate tensile strength and elongation of the CFPW zone were both up to 85% of the base alloys. |
