| Description | Journal: Materials Research Express In this work, zeolite/activated carbon composite granules were produced in a prototype high shear mixer granulator, using wet granulation method. The main objectives of the study were to investigate the effect of granule size and composition on its compression behavior and crushing strength. The porous granules were prepared to be used, in another study, as adsorbent of air/water pollutants. The Fourier transform infra-red (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), x-ray diffraction (XRD), and quasi-static single particle crushing strength tests were employed to characterize chemical, physical, and mechanical properties of the granules. The results showed that smaller granules with the lower content of activated carbon achieved higher mechanical strength. Considering these results, it was possible to produce composite granules with the crystalline and porous structure, as well as suitable mechanical strength. |
