NDLI: Value of the PhD

Description	Journal: Physics Bulletin I have recently completed a PhD course at a British university, and would like to add to the recent discussion of the value of the Ph D. In particular, I would comment upon the suggestion by Mr G. R. Lee (Physics Bulletin, October 1968, p. 358) that the SRC support research students for up to four years if they work on experimental doctorates. The objection to this is obvious: it would not be long before most such students were taking four years to obtain their degrees.
