| Description | Journal: Materials Research Express Modification is known as Al-Si casting alloys transforming the structure of the eutectic Si from the laminated structure to the fiber-like structure. Modification process, rapid solidification, vibration applied during solidification, high pressure effect and heat treatment can be the result of spheronization. However, the most practical and common application for modification is the modification process with the addition of elements. Addition of the most effective modifying element in industrial applications is known as master alloys containing Na and Sr due to their low intensity strong effects. Alternatively, it is known that Al-Si alloys which have a particularly eutectic composition provide significant advantages in modification with CuSn5 alloys when their processing properties are significant. In this study, in order to determine the modification effect of the solidification rate, the castings were made in sand and coke mold, and the addition of Al10Sr, CuSn5 and Al10Sr + CuSn5 for the addition of the modifying element was performed. Thus, the solidification rate and the modification effects of different modifiers in the structure were evaluated by microstructure, hardness, density measurement and wear characterizations. Microstructural characterization was performed by optical and scanning electron microscopy. Wear tests were carried out with a shear rate of 0.5m / s and a pin-on-disc system under load of 10, 15 and 25N. As a result of the experiments, weight losses increased with increasing load. The Sr and CuSn additives added to the Al12Si alloy increased wear rate. It was found that Sr modified Al12Si revealed better performance than CuSn modified. |
