| Description | Journal: Physics in Medicine & Biology An analysis is given of the effect on the sensitivity of an electromagnetic flowmeter of a blood vessel with conductivity different from that of the blood, when the magnetic field is invariant in the direction of flow but non-uniform otherwise. It is shown that the presence of moderate non-uniformity in the magnetic field can significantly alter the effect of the blood vessel in comparison with the uniform field case. It is concluded that the analyses of the effect of blood vessels in electromagnetic flowmeters must include a discussion of field non-uniformity in order to have practical meaning. |
