Description	Journal: Physics Bulletin One of the things I remember about the older generation of physicists who taught me physics – most of them trained before the Second World War – was that they often set their discussion of physics in a historical context. Looking back at prewar physics textbooks now, I realise that this was a part of the teaching strategy adopted then, whether consciously or unconsciously, for organising the presentation of physics.
