Optical and neutron diffraction study of the magnetic phase diagrams of the mixed metamagnets Fe1-pMnpCl2

| Description | Journal: Journal of Physics C: Solid State Physics The magnetic phase diagrams of the mixed metamagnets $Fe_{1-p}Mn_{p}Cl_{2}$ have been studied by magnetically induced light scattering, Faraday rotation and neutron diffraction. The Neel temperatures $T_{N}$(p) and temperature dependence of sublattice magnetisation were determined from the (1,0,1) magnetic reflection intensity. Tricritical temperatures $T_{t}$(p) and fields $H_{t}$(p) were found by tracing isotherms of the field-induced light scattering in the mixed-phase region. Magnetisation isotherms were plotted using Faraday rotation. $T_{t}$(p) tends to zero at $p_{c}$ approximately=0.3, near the two-dimensional percolation limit for a triangular lattice while $H_{t}$(p) tends to about 0.7 $H_{t}$(0). A comparison is made with $Fe_{1-p}M_{p}Cl_{2}$ (M=Mg, Co). $T_{n}$(p) falls with increasing p with a slope of -1.74. |
