| Description | Sandwich panels are one of the properly designed materials for use in impact conditions. Therefore, in recent years, many efforts have been made to improve their impact resistance. In some cases, for reducing the weight of sandwich panels or enhancing the usage capability of these structures under high-velocity impact conditions, the new lightweight cores such as polymeric foam or bio-based materials have been substituted for the conventional metallic cores. Using two cores at the same time is another way of achieving higher impact resistance in sandwich panels, resulting in the development of hybrid core sandwich panels. Also, by introducing new methods for the fabrication of new materials as core, some admirable research works have introduced some new advanced cores. Given these progressive trends, to achieve a comprehensive study of the performance of composite sandwich panels under high-velocity impact conditions, these structures can be categorized from the materials point of view. Hence, in this chapter, the impact resistance of these structures is studied according to the core materials, which are polymeric, metallic, bio-based, hybrid and new advanced core materials.
