| Description | Transition to school has been recognized as a critical life junction for children and their families; therefore, it is important to listen to children’s perspectives on these experiences and involve them in decisions and actions related to them. The chapter presents an action research project conducted in one preschool in Iceland, focusing on the children’s perspectives of transition to school. The Project Approach was used as a model to involve the children in decision-making about transition activities in the year before they started primary school. They suggested ideas about activities that they thought were relevant and wanted to participate in. Their ideas were followed through during the action research period, and parents and educators were able to follow the processes and the activities through documentations presented in a closed Facebook group. Data were gathered through observations, pictures, and drawings that were constructed during the process. The chapter presents findings illustrating how educators can use children’s perspectives to revise and improve their practices. Book Name: Pedagogies for Children's Perspectives |
