| Description | Health harms seem more pervasive and connected than ever before. Too often the sources of these harms, such as climate change, environmental pollutants, persistent pathogens, and social changes, cannot be easily or quickly eliminated. Scientific uncertainty and social debates on how best to protect health values and resources make it hard to find universally accepted actions to reduce harms. This gets more complicated when steps to reduce harm in one species, like humans, creates risks for other species, generations, or ecosystems. This chapter discusses different ways we can conceive different harm reduction goals as well as adapts harm reduction processes from public health to a reciprocal care context. The chapter emphasizes the need to act today to make incremental steps towards healthier situations rather than waiting for the perfect solution to complex health issues at the interface of people, animals, and their shared environments.
