| Description | This Section addresses the aspects of dam design that are particular to the RCC method of concrete placement. While the generalities of most Standards, Manuals and Guidelines developed for dams constructed with Conventional Vibrated mass Concrete (CVC) apply equally to RCC dams, certain specifics cannot be applied without appropriate consideration and modification. To illustrate important differences to be considered in dam design, reference is made in this Section to construction methodology, structural performance, measured behaviour and the findings of research on prototype dams. Design considerations that are common to both RCC and CVC dams are only addressed where different approaches, or factors of influence need to be recognised. Other general aspects of dam design, such as hydrology, hydraulics, geology, foundation treatment, etc, are not considered. This Section presents a description of the current state-of-the-art for the design of RCC dams, but does not attempt to represent a Standard for RCC dam design.
