| Description | Diamond is an indirect bandgap material with an energy gap of 5.49 eV. Relatively few impurities can be incorporated into diamond, probably because of the small lattice spacing. The only defects for which the energy levels have been located in the forbidden gap are the boron acceptor, the nitrogen donor centers and the vacancy. In this chapter we will review the experimental measurements which have established the present-day picture of the band structure, and, where appropriate, these results will be compared with the results of theoretical calculations.
