| Description | The study of moisture flow in soils in unsaturated condition is based on the so-called Richard's second order partial differential equation in which the coefficients of the equation are: hydraulic conductivity and soil water diffusivity. The main difficulty of solving the equation is that these coefficients are unknown functions of water content. There are a few methods of measuring these parameters in laboratory which need special apparatus and accurate instruments which are not available everywhere. In the present paper a new method of determining the hydraulic conductivity and diffusivity of soils has been developed using the indirect measurement of soil moisture called electrical resistivity method and cumulative infiltration in a vertical infiltration test at time intervals which can be carried out in any soil laboratory. The results are compared by Zayani's (1991) and Fard's (1996) inverse method of determining soil water hydraulic characteristics and there is a very good agreement.
