| Description | Solder and automated soldering processes are relevant topics for electronics manufacturing and test engineers. The previous chapter described the PWB as the basic platform for mounting electronic components as well as being a component itself. Inasmuch as the next logical step is to interconnect components, this chapter will concentrate on the universal connection process: soldering. Solder is used to assure the electrical connection (and more recently, the mechanical connection) between points. It is literally the binding which holds the connections together. Soldering processes, therefore, pervade many aspects of the electronics manufacturing area. Accordingly, the more relevant of them are discussed in this chapter in order to provide a working level of awareness to the reader. Detailed discussions are found in the complete list of references and suggested additional reading at the end of the chapter. Book Name: Computer Integrated Electronics Manufacturing and Testing |
