| Description | Horizontal radial flow in the uniformly porous leaky artesian aquifer is augmented by downward vertical leakage of water through an aquitard. Initially the flowing well is capped and the drawdown is zero throughout the leaky artesian aquifer. The cap is removed, the water level declines instantaneously to a lower position, and a constant drawdown and variable discharge by natural flow from the well is maintained. An equation which describes the drawdown distribution in a leaky artesian aquifer with release of water from storage within the overlying aquitard is presented by Streltsova. A two-dimensional depth-pressure diagram for a selected aquifer system developed by Poland and Davis is presented. Artesian pressure head declines in the aquitard and clay interbed lag the artesian pressure head decline in the aquifer. Consider the situation where the artesian pressure head in an aquifer coarse-grained sediments above and below a clay interbed is suddenly lowered and maintained at a constant level.
