| Description | This chapter describes results of a static analysis of the brick vaults and pillars in St. James basilica in Nysa — a church with the steepest roof in Europe. It aims to compare the actual damage of the vaults and pillars with an Finite Element numerical Model analysis of the state before and after strengthening. The chapter explains a proposed strengthening methodology, which is based on technologies using composite C- Fiber-Reinforced Cementitious Matrix and Ultra-High Tensile Strength Steel materials and mineral mortars—without the application of epoxy resins. The use of this form of strengthening significantly reduces the maximum tensile stress in the vaults and pillars and eliminates cracks. The non-linear finite element modelling analysis completed helped in the formulation of a proposal to strengthen the vaults and most deformed pillars. The chapter discusses priorities for further research, monitoring methods and possible techniques for enabling more uniform stress distribution in vaults and pillars.
