| Description | Hong Kong is a media-saturated city. According to government records, there were more than 700 registered periodicals in Hong Kong in 2008, 45 of which were daily newspapers (Hong Kong SAR 2009: 333). Putting aside those that focus exclusively on special interests, about 17 newspapers can be regarded as constituting the mainstream daily press and serving the basic informational needs of a population of 7 million. In addition, several regional or international newspapers, such as the International Herald Tribune, the Financial Times, and USA Today International, are also printed and distributed in Hong Kong, giving newsstands in the financial districts a distinctive “international” look.
