The centrifuge is a C72 model manufactured by Actidyn Systems, capable of a maximum centrifuge acceleration of 130g. The C72 centrifuge can accommodate two types of strongboxes, a square container or a cylindrical container. Cylindrical containers are preferred for clay and silt samples that are consolidated under the electric press. Square strongboxes are used to reconstitute sand samples, as they are more appropriate for reconstitution by raining. Sand samples are prepared by raining, a technique that is used in many different centers and have proven to generate homogeneous and repeatable sample conditions.
