Description	Journal: Blood Pressure In November 1896 the Italian physician Scipione Riva-Rocci presented a new model of sphygmomanometer at the Scientific Session of the Reale Accademia di Medicina di Torino. The data concerning this device were published the same year in the Gazzetta Medica di Torino in an original article entitled 'Un nuovo sfigmomanometro (a new sphygmomanometer)' (1). This discovery heralded the modern era of blood pressure measurement. [Fig. 1].
