| Description | Evaluating a production is a highly subjective process. To grow as a director, the director should evaluate the production to determine its strengths and weaknesses based on the actual performances and the production process as a whole. The production is judged based on its performances, not its rehearsals. Whereas productions are often officially reviewed on opening night, the run of the show needs to be examined to truly evaluate its quality. Having conducted a self-evaluation, the director's thoughts are combined with the opinions of the external sources. It is vital for the director to remain as objective as possible throughout the process to take advantage of the learning opportunity it can provide. The director must keep in mind that no production is ever without any value or strength nor is any production ever without room for improvement. Book Name: The Director's Toolkit |
