Description | This chapter describes the manual and mechanical operational principles enabling an understanding of the categorization of traditionally constructed woven textiles by warp control and weft insertion. Designing a double cloth is the integration of two fabrics, each with its own warp and weft interlocking yarns, distinguished as the face cloth and back cloth to provide clarity when locating stitching possibilities. Each woven textile process has one thing in common, a shed. The fundamental operation of a loom includes shedding mechanism/motion; weft insertion mechanism; beat-up of inserted weft; let off of warp yarns; take up of woven fabric on loom. The woven textile is produced by alternating between the heddle rod and the warp batten shedding rod to open the warp yarns, creating a shed for the weft yarn. The diversification of traditional wovens to technical wovens is achieved via thorough understanding of the weaving principles. Book Name: Textile and Clothing Design Technology |
