| Description | The water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis, referred hereafter as buffalo) is important to the economy of several countries in Asia and South America, and there are also isolated herds in Europe. Historically, clinical coccidiosis in buffalo was first reported in $India,^{ 128 }$ but the species of coccidia was not identified. There is considerable confusion concerning the species of Eimeria in buffaloes. Much of the confusion is because most of the species were originally described from cattle and assumed to be the same in buffaloes. Recently, I reviewed in detail history, taxonomy, and biology of coccidia and coccidiosis in $buffaloes.^{ 423 }$ Here, essential information concerning the biology of bubaline coccidiosis is summarized. Among the genera of coccidia discussed in this book, only Eimeria species are known to parasitize buffaloes. Book Name: Coccidiosis in Livestock, Poultry, Companion Animals, and Humans |
