| Description | Histochemical technique is necessary for the study of muscle and nerve biopsy. Its preparation follows fixed protocols and precise manual steps. The neuromuscular technologist should be aware of all chemical materials described in Chapter 4 , in order to use them for manual preparation of each histochemical reaction. The most routinely used stain in neuromuscular pathology practice is hematoxylin and eosin (H&E), which clearly visualizes the general structure of the muscle and nerve tissue. However, the need for other special histochemistries is also substantial. Histochemical reaction reveals the biochemical integrity of fiber types and their selective involvement to every disease process. Its reaction can demonstrate the structural changes in the muscle that are not apparently visualized on routine histological stains. In this chapter, we describe the histochemistry reaction procedures and protocols used in the manual preparation of these stains. Book Name: Neuromuscular Pathology Made Easy |
