| Description | Journal: New Zealand Journal of Geology and Geophysics Disarticulated bones from a large fish of Piripauan-Haumurian age (Campanian-Maastrichtian; Late Cretaceous), are described as the first evidence of the family Pachyrhizodontidae in New Zealand. Comparisons of the jaws and teeth, vertebrae, ceratohyal, and fins are made with known Pachyrhizodus species and it is concluded that these represent the first example of P. caninus in the New Zealand fossil record. |
