| Description | The lack of awareness, knowledge and capacity in the EE field has long been identified as one of the main barriers to large-scale adoption of EE in Canada. As far back as the late 1980s, Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) in its previous incarnation as Energy, Mines and Resources Canada commissioned the creation of a series of practical manuals known as the Energy Management Series which dealt with the principles of EE in a number of generic energy-consuming systems and technologies. The manuals also included a methodology for managing energy. To enhance the use of this library of information in the marketplace, NRCan developed a college-level training program known as CEMET (Canadian Energy Management and Environmental Training) whose curriculum was based on the Energy Management Series. Durham College, in Oshawa, ON, was appointed as the lead college for this pilot project conceived as a precursor to establishing a national college training network. After CEMET had been operating for a couple of years, it became apparent that the college model was not ideally suited to program objectives. Furthermore, an identifiable marketplace delivery organization was needed if the program was going to penetrate the emerging energy management sector. Therefore, while CEMET remained the original NRCan program, a privately-owned company was created to serve as the delivery agent. Book Name: Canadian Energy Efficiency Outlook |
