| Description | As long as there are no accidents, people living around the airport, are only going to complain about noise. The rate of complaints around Schiphol is some twenty times higher than the same rate at any other European airport. A major upsurge in the number of complaints on aircraft noise occurred immediately after a major aviation accident in the vicinity of Schiphol. Statistics point out that worldwide only a quarter of all accidents occur whilst a commercial jet aircraft is en route. Approximately 25 percent of all accidents happens during the take off-phase and fifty percent during the approach and landing-phase. Within these crucial three quarters, airports can be seen as focal points of risk. To realize risk reduction, the key task of the Integrated Safety Management system Schiphol is to collect and review incident and hazard reports from all operating organizations and analyse possible connections.
