| Description | As various wireless multimedia applications are getting more and more popular, the demand for wireless traffic is increasing rapidly, and the massive multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) technology has been proposed as a key enabler for the next-generation (5G) wireless communication systems. Recently, a number of high-quality studies have confirmed that massive MIMO systems are specialized in improving the wireless communication capacity vastly in cellular networks. In this chapter, it is proposed to describe the massive MIMO system capacity for 5G. Furthermore, the frequency band for 5G systems has been chosen to operate in the millimeter band from 30 to 300 GHz. To optimize channel bandwidth, many multiple access technologies have been developed over the years, namely time-division multiple access, frequency-division multiple access, code-division multiple access as well as orthogonal frequency-division multiple access. In the future, there will be more mobile stations and subscribers in the 5G network exchanging various multimedia applications. Therefore, these access technologies will be unable to manage the 5G spectrum. A novel access method has been recently developed known as beam-division multiple access (BDMA). It has been shown that BDMA coupled with massive MIMO systems can achieve optimum channel capacity in 5G systems. In this chapter, it is proposed to analyze the BDMA technique and provide its usefulness for 5G systems. Book Name: 5G Multimedia Communication |
