| Description | Overcoming Anorexia Online (OAO; a CBT-based intervention for carers of people with anorexia that is accessed via the internet) was used within the department as part of a clinical research programme investigating effective treatments for people with anorexia nervosa and their carers. Carers of people referred to the department for assessment and treatment of anorexia were invited to take part in the study, either directly (if they attended the patient's assessment appointment) or they were contacted indirectly by letter, phone or email (with the patient's permission) if they did not attend the assessment appointment. For the purpose of the study, consenting carers were randomised to either OAO or a control support intervention (provided by beat: www.b-eat.co.uk).
