| Description | In the previous chapters we discussed the role of the institution, the different types, as well as the discourse of dictatorship in the processes of consolidating and reproducing the rule of the bourgeois class. The social function of dictatorship was associated with the dialectical transformation of the bourgeoisie from revolutionary agent in Europe to new ruling class and agent of counter-revolution. But before it became the emblematic institution for the counter-revolution, dictatorship was associated with the revolutionary processes, in fact, with the more radical elements of these processes, as we saw in the discussion of the Committee of Public Safety and the French National Convention in the context of the French Revolution. Notably, Jean-Paul Marat, the 'friend of the people' and voice of the sans-culottes (the working-class and poorest strata of revolutionary France), had openly proposed a dictatorship to defend the revolution against its enemies.$ ^{1}$ Book Name: Dictatorship |
