| Description | Hazardous metals, toxic chemicals, and biowaste fall under the category of potential emerging pollutants (PEPs). These PEPs are usually discharged from industries and various plants, and pose a severe threat to the environment and its ecology. The industrial effluents are discharged into water sources and adversely affect aquatic life. The membrane-based separation process (MBSP) proved to be a useful technique over conventional methods to treat industrial emissions due to its energy and cost efficiency. The various practices include microfiltration (MF), nanofiltration (NF), ultrafiltration (UF), and reverse and forward osmosis (RO and FO), among others. The emergence of cellulose hybrid biomembranes [copolymer poly((3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl acrylate)-block-myrcene)] and their benefits based on membrane performance and governing equations are discussed in this chapter.
