| Description | About the chapter This chapter addresses some of the ergonomic issues related to personnel selection, placement and training that arise in many organizations. The first part of the chapter introduces these topics and provide some background material on why they are important. Focus then shifts to testing methods often used in personnel selection and placement issues. One objective of the latter discussion is to introduce readers to the concepts of test validity, reliability, power, efficiency, selection ratios, skill level, and Z-scores, and their importance in ability testing. The following sections then focus on training. The later discussion briefly introduces some commonly used training methods, along with methods of measuring and improving the effectiveness of a training program. The use of job aids of various forms as a substitute for training is then briefly discussed. Book Name: Introduction to Human Factors and Ergonomics for Engineers |
