| Description | Energy information system (EIS) reporting tools take on a variety of “looks” these days. Many of them produce a standard set of reports allowing the users to substitute different meter or building data into them. Some go as far as to allow for “drag and drop” operations. Almost all require some sort of option selection to get the desired data set displayed. This chapter describes a unique approach that gives the users an almost infinite number of reports while providing instant results from their mouse clicks. The users click their way through designing reports and graphs that summarize data at multiple levels and show pertinent trends in the form of colorful graphs. This EIS design provides the novice user with a very short “learning curve” and the expert user can take advantage of the design flexibility. It provides an ideal solution for energy managers that need simple, easy-to-use tools that everyone can use to analyze their energy consumption data in just a few minutes per day. Energy managers can use these tenants to develop their own EIS, evaluate the effectiveness of the EIS they already have or use them to help decide which EIS to purchase. |
