Description	Journal: Bird Study A nocturnal census of singing Nightingales in 1976 accounted for 3,230 birds though the full total may have been nearer 4,000. Nightingales are declining in northern and western Britain, but current trends elsewhere are obscured by annual fluctuations. There is no evidence that numbers are restricted by shortage of suitable habitat.
