Description	Data in the building sector is fragmented and disaggregated. Reliable and well-structured data on building characteristics and technical systems, operation, energy use and related socio-economic factors is still missing. Nevertheless increased access to and affordability of large scale data handling technologies make possible the presentation of this data in accessible way to a wider range of users. So dedicated services and open platforms are starting to be shaped aiming at predictive insight for building renovation and wider applications such as smart cities and communities. Home owners/occupants use such decision supports to compare energy performance to standard levels. Manufacturers and installers to find new markets and wider hawking. ESCOs to investigate areas of possible investment. Policy makers to design and monitor measures to reach the energy, climate and health targets. The paragraph will give an overview of practices making building energy-related data useful to these targets. It will also show how market actors responded to the new information being made available for building stock renovation, a priority in the energy strategy of the EU.
