| Description | In this chapter, various image pre-processing methods, image enhancement, performance metrics for image enhancement and image segmentation techniques are discussed. Further, an algorithm is designed for face detection in MATLAB 2018a. It can be concluded that image pre-processing is an important task before feeding images to any intelligent system. Pre-processing mainly involves enhancement techniques that are used for removing noise that may occur due to blurriness, night view, dim light, occlusion, shadows, etc. Therefore, when we design a system for surveillance or detection of objects in a video or any other image recognition task, the first step is image pre-processing so that high performance of the system can be achieved.
