| Description | The vastness of this area of C-glycoside synthesis is exemplified by the need to breakup this section into two separate chapters. This continuation of Chapter 1 will deal with the electrophilic reactions of glycals, enitols, and anhydro sugars. Sugar lactones will also be discussed since they have been used by several workers in the preparation of β-C-pyranosides. The same organization, as far as nucleophiles is concerned, will be loosely followed. Finally, and maybe a little bit out of context, a fairly new reaction involving intramolecular arylation by participation of neighboring aromatic rings will be discussed, which is a reaction discovered by Martin. As in the last chapter, there will be a significant amount of conceptual overlap, especially in the use of glycals; therefore information will be summarized and presented as practically as possible.
