| Description | 18 C-Glycosyl compounds are found in many natural products and are also often introduced into synthetic glycoconjugates to increase stability toward acid hydrolysis and glycosidase degradation of their parent $O-glycosides.^{ 1 }$ d-Mannose- and l-fucose-derived C-glycosyl substances have been developed as potent inhibitors of the bacterial lectin $LecB.^{ 2,3 }$ Their synthesis starts with a Henry addition/condensation sequence of nitromethane with l-fucose, followed by reduction of the nitro group and further derivatization.
