| Description | Synthesis by aerosol methods (e.g., spray-drying) involves the production of small drops from a precursor solution where, in a later step, each drop acts as an individual reactor. This procedure can be matched with the sol-gel method for preparing metal oxide and mixed oxide composites. Hydrolysis, condensation and drying occur during drop lifetime resulting in a continuous production method for a wide variety of materials. Moreover, this approach minimizes the use of chemical precursors and waste generation. In this chapter, the focus will be on mesoporous oxide particles obtained by a combination of an aerosol route and sol-gel processes.
