Description	The meat industry is now a "mature" industry. Average per capita consumption of meat, including beef, is not likely to show much, if any, increase in coming years. Even at recent per capita supply levels and cost of production, total meat production has been too high and prices too low to permit profits for most livestock and poultry producers. If cattlemen are to have favorable profit opportunities in the future, they will have to act individually and collectively to improve their own efficiency and to improve demand for their product.
