| Description | The main anatomical consideration in hip preservation is to preserve the blood supply to the femoral head, as the femoral head has a high chance of leading to avascular necrosis and the anatomy of the blood supply is a key consideration in hip preservation. The anatomy and physiological factors which affect the blood flow have been studied extensively during hip-resurfacing arthroplasty as it preserves the femoral head. Hip preservation includes all procedures which attempt to increase joint function without removing and replacing the natural hip joint. Hip arthroscopy in contrast to the knee has been relatively new due to many reasons. Management of femoro-acetabular impingement is the commonest indication for hip arthroscopy. An abnormal femoral head causing a bump moving within the acetabulum causes damage to the acetabular cartilage, causing a cam type of impingement. Mixed induced autologous chondrocyte implantation for isolated osteochondral lesions of the hip can be done arthroscopically. Book Name: The Hip Joint |
